Who is watching us in the silence of urban space?
In a newly built, empty office tower in Amsterdam’s Zuidas, I explored the quiet architecture of isolation. The building appeared vacant, yet I was never alone. Red sensor lights embedded in the ceilingtraced my every move — silent witnesses in a space meant for productivity but suspended in stillness.

I tried to deceive their gaze by walking slowly, almost invisibly, testing the limits of presence and detection.
In that moment, the building became a stage for quiet resistance, where slowness became a way to reclaim autonomy in a system built to track, measure, and respond.

(Counter)Productive

Why do people in office buildings move and behave in such uniform ways?
Why is productivity the unspoken rule in these urban spaces? What happens if we disrupt that rhythm?
These questions led me to stage an intervention in a shared office space — spending an entire working day of 7 hours lying on a long couch, doing nothing except eating and using the toilet, while others around me continued their routines at their workspace.
By deliberately occupying space in a way that resisted expected behavior, I confronted the norms embedded in thearchitecture of labor and played with the unspoken rules that govern presence in urban environments.
