Bio
Enzy Jhang is an artist from South Korea, currently based in Amsterdam. Working across performance, video, and installation, her practice is rooted in site-specificity and a deep curiosity about the spaces we move through every day. She engages with environments that might seem mundane at first—sidewalks, classrooms, office buildings, exhibition spaces, or imagined zones shaped by migration, language, and memory—but treats them as fertile grounds for play, observation, and subtle disruption.
Her work often begins with a long process of being-with a place. Through close attention and physical presence, she picks up on the social codes, behavioral patterns, and cultural structures embedded in the space. From there, she develops characters, invents games, or intervenes through performative gestures that reflect, highlight, or gently satirize what the space tries to conceal or normalize.
Enzy sees identity as something that is constantly shifting—a result of ongoing feedback between the self and the spaces it inhabits. In this way, her work opens up room to reflect on how we are shaped by the environments around us, and how we, in turn, might reshape them.
She graduated from the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in 2024 and has presented her work in Rietveld UNCUT at the Stedelijk Museum, as well as at M4 gastatelier, Red Couch, and Studio Hester.
